210kg Ice hidden in sofas and heading for Malaysia seized

A WOMAN was arrested at Klong Toey port while trying to ship sofas to Malaysia with 210 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) hidden in their seats, Amarin TV said today (Nov. 10).

Mr. Vichai Chaimongkol, secretary-general of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), said the Seaport Interdiction Task Force (SITF) arrested Mrs. Supawadee Iamurai, 26, a resident of Samut Prakan province, at the port and upon being questioned she admitted to being paid 35,000 baht to ship the drug-filled sofas that had come to Thailand from another country to Malaysia.

The Ice had been packed in 210 bags labelled as Chinese tea totalling around 210 kilogrammes. The sofas in which they were hidden had been put in 10 wooden crates for shipment at two a crate.

Vichai added that Ice is the drug most often found hidden in various products for shipping overseas and among them are engine parts, air-conditioner compressors and air purifiers.

From January this year to date a total of 68 cases of drug smuggling to 13 countries were busted. Seized were 204.14kg of Ice, 21.6kg of heroin, 10.02kg of marijuana, 515kg Ketamine, 730 grammes of cocaine, 990 ecstasy pills and 6,040 methamphetamine pills.
