Policeman transferred for escorting VIP motorcade

AFTER a video clip showing a Thonglor police officer escorting a VIP motorcade through the counterflow on Kamphaeng Phet 7 Road two days ago went viral, the Metropolitan Police Bureau today (Nov. 5)  transferred this officer to the headquarters, Sanook.com said.

Amid the fierce criticism that followed online Dr. Boon Vanasin, chairman of Thonburi Healthcare Group (THG), admitted that he was seated in the Mercedes Benz being escorted by two police vehicles.

Pol. Maj. Geng Jirasan Kaewsang-ek, Metropolitan Police Bureau’s deputy commissioner, said an inspection of the clip showed that a police lieutenant colonel was riding a motorcycle with a sticker saying “Thonglor Police” on the front grille and at the side the number 061.

This officer was later identified as  Pol. Lt. Col. Sangwien Khamrangsi, a traffic inspector at this police station,

Thonglor police station has been ordered to investigate the incident and to facilitate this process Pol. Lt. Col. Sangwien has been transferred to Metropolitan Police Division 5 headquarters. In his absence  Pol. Lt. Col. Narongwit Sudkangwan, deputy traffic superintendent at Thonglor police station, will be performing the duties of controlling and facilitating traffic management in this station’s jurisdiction.

Dr. Boon had said in an interview with “Nation Online” that he used this route regularly, and from 6.30-9 a.m. the traffic flow is one way but the person who took the video probably did not read the traffic signs and drove in on the counterflow side leading to a traffic jam.

The two police officers were not escorting his motorcade but were trying to resolve the traffic jam, he said, adding he is not angry with the netizens who criticised him.
