THOUSANDS of People’s Party protesters gathered at Ladprao intersection this evening (Nov. 27) with numerous yellow ducks, now a key rally icon, held aloft as the leaders started giving speeches, Thai Rath newspaper reported.
The yellow inflatable duck, which bobbed up and down as the wind blew, is now always present at People’s Party rallies after they were first used for protection against powerful water cannons fired outside the Parliament on Nov. 17.
Other inflatable toys, such as the alien, also showed up at today’s rally.
Protesters tied the white ribbon on their wrists as a symbol of resistance against dictatorship with those under 18 years of age tagged with pink and orange wrist bands.
People’s Party leaders started giving speeches and one of them said that the yellow ducks are an army while stressing that this rally is a practice on resisting a coup d’etat.
Later Mr. Chaiamorn Kaewwiboonpan, or Ammy, and his pop group The Bottom Blues sang some songs for the protesters.
Several volunteer guard groups were maintaining security this evening and among them were Associates for the People, Project Mayhem, Fight Club Thailand which is a red-shirt group, and Special Forces which is led by Mr. Palm Phomjampa, or Kru Palm, a former special forces trainer.
