Three protest leaders still in the hospital as lawyer checks detention

ALL three protest leaders freed from prison on Friday evening are still undergoing medical treatment at Rama 9 Hospital with police guarding Ms. Panusaya Sitthichirawattanakul, or Rung, as she has already been taken into custody, INN News reported this afternoon (Nov. 1, 2020).

Mr. Krisadang Nuttajarat, a lawyer for all three of them, said Rung has been taken into custody by Pathumwan police station, and because she can be detained anywhere, police are closely guarding her at the hospital.

Pol. Lt. Col. Akharaphon Chanphet, deputy head for investigation at this station, brought two arrest warrants issued by Pathumwan District Court dated July 22, 2020 wherein Rung is charged with violating the emergency decree.

The charges arose from gatherings at the Skywalk in Pathumwan district on June 5 and June 22 where Rung read out People’s Party announcements.

Regarding Mr. Parit Chivarak, or Penguin, who the Muang Ubon Ratchathani police station are waiting to prosecute under Section of 116 of the Criminal Code for a speech he gave there, according to the criminal procedure the police have no right to detain him because he has already surrendered to them and been fingerprinted.

Meanwhile Mr. Panupong Chadnok, or Mike, Rayong police came to detain him in a case arising from having displayed a placard to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha during his visit to this coastal province earlier this year but because they had never stated the charges to him, they could not detain him.

Krisadang added that all three are not in any condition to be moved from the hospital, with doctors saying they need to stay there for another two to three days.

This is because all three are suffering from various ailments and have underlying illnesses.  Rung is dehydrated and is suffering from migraine. Penguin has asthma and a lot of glass cuts. Meanwhile Mike’s condition requires a brain examination.
