A LARGE HORDE of young motorcyclists was rounded up last night (June 20) in Nonthaburi – the first roundup of a kind since curfew was lifted nationwide last week, police said.
A total of 102 adolescents were rounded up and 97 motorcycles seized at about 03.00 a.m. on Kanchanaphisek Road and Route 345 in Bang Bua Thong district on the northwestern outskirts of Bangkok for allegedly driving motorcycles without license plates and/or without the driver’s licenses, driving in wrong directions and speeding, the police said.
Most were blatantly showing off their modified motorcycles and racing against one another on the roads in the wee hours of Sunday.
The police are yet to locate garages which may have illegally modified those motorcycles and track down the Facebook page administrators who had helped organize the daredevil event.
A dozen female adolescents who were riding as passengers on some of the motorcycles were not given charges, however.
