A YACHT that had just been repaired and was on a test run caught fire off Pattaya’s Na Jomtien beach and fortunately all three crew members who were trapped on the vessel were safely rescued, Amarin TV said this evening (Apr. 26).

At 3 p.m. Sattahip Marine Police, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office and Pattaya Harbour Office were alerted of a fierce fire raging aboard a yacht named Coco with thick smoke billowing in the sky off Pattaya coast.

Rescue boats rushed to spray water and put out the blaze but after half an hour they were still not able to extinguish it. However they managed to rescue all three crew members trapped on board the burning boat with no one getting injured.

This yacht, with registration number 492300301, is 13.25 metres long and 4.10. metres wide.

The yacht’s captain said after repairs had been completed he and a mechanic plus another crew member took the boat for a test run. While sailing off Na Jomtien beach flames started shooting out from the exhaust pipe.

All three tried to put out the fire but failed to control it and it started engulfing the yacht so he quickly called for help.

Pattaya Harbour Office has now issued an order prohibiting the use of this yacht and called the owner in for questioning.
