Tourist injured in Phuket shooting range accident

A BULLET accidently fired by a Phuket shooting range employee flew across and lodged in the cheek of a Chinese tourist at around 6 p.m. today (March 18), Amarin TV said.

Pol. Lt. Kiattisak Saengmanee, deputy investigator at Kathu police station, quickly took a team to the shooting range in Kathu district to investigate upon being alerted of this accident.

Initial investigation revealed that the injured woman, Ms. Xio Lili, 52, arrived at the shooting range in a taxi with a Chinese friend at approximately 5.20 p.m. They were taking photos in front of the shooting lanes when a bullet suddenly hit her right cheek and lodged within. As she was in critical condition the taxi driver immediately rushed her to the hospital.

The unidentified employer told policemen that as he was inspecting his personal pistol in front of the staff room, approximately 20 metres from the spot where the tourists were taking photos, it accidently discharged because he had forgotten that it was loaded.

The bullet penetrated the wooden wall and glass door before hitting the tourist in her face, seriously injuring her.

He has been detained on charges of “negligent conduct causing serious injury to another person and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition” with legal procedures to continue.
