2 Russian suspects deny killing, mutilating fellow countryman

CHONBURI police said two Russian men arrested last night (Feb. 1) in the murder and dismemberment of a compatriot remained defiant and denied all charges but they have a surveillance camera clip tying them to this brutal killing, PPTVHD36 and Amarin TV said this morning (Feb.2).

The pair were arrested after Mr. Mikhail Emelianov, 30, a Russian national, disappeared with his mother Ms. Olga Lazabenko, 51, flying to Thailand to file a police report on Jan. 8.

She said prior to disappearing her son received threatening messages from a fellow Russian national demanding repayment of over $120,000 (approximately 3.7 million baht).

Police investigators revealed that they tracked down the two suspects through a surveillance camera clip taken in Soi Phatthanakan 4, Moo 10, Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, showing them riding two motorcycles with this appearing suspicious as the seats were opened.

The clip led to a nearby cassava plantation where the dismembered body was buried at various locations,

Police then arrested Mr. Iaroslav Demidov, 35, and Mr. Dmitrrii  Maskalev, 38, both Russian nationals, at a hotel in Sukhumvit Soi 71 after Pattaya Provincial Court issued arrest warrants for them on charges of intentional murder, burying, concealing, moving, or destroying a dead body to cover up the death or the cause of death, and kidnapping for ransom through torture and cruelty resulting in the victim’s death.

Last night, Chonburi Provincial Police investigators brought the two Russian suspects to Nong Prue police station for questioning. During their transfer, both appeared tense and refused to answer questions from reporters. They were then taken into a room to begin interrogating about the brutal murder but initially both suspects continued to deny all charges.
