Cyber Police cut illegal Internet links to foreign investors at Mae Sot

UPON being alerted by AIS 3BB FIBRE3 of likely illegal Internet use at Mae Sot, Tak province, with Myanmar’s Myawaddy border town just across Moei river, Cyber Police raided three suspicious commercial buildings where a criminal network was found and was immediately cut with investigation underway to catch those who set it up, Naewna newspaper said today (Jan. 30).

AIS 3BB FIBRE3 had detected unusually high and continuous Internet usage in this area, raising suspicions about criminal activity, therefore quickly contacted Cyber Police with the company’s personnel providing close technical support during the raid.

Initially, Cyber Police have detected financial connections to foreign investment groups with usage patterns at the three buildings showing approximately twice the normal level, which led to the search with the AIS team verifying the facts.

Within the unoccupied three buildings the police team discovered modified computer equipment used to collect Internet signals and connected to distribution devices across the border.

The Internet service was suspended and the equipment was removed as evidence for legal proceedings with  investigation  being expanded to apprehend and prosecute those involved according to the law.
