A PICKUP truck crammed with around 60 illegal migrant workers flipped over after the reckless driver sped away from highway police in Kanchanaburi early this morning (Feb. 26) leading to approximately 20 of them getting injured and blood splattered across the road, Amarin TV said.
The accident occurred while Pol. Lt. Kusol Yafan and his team from Highway Police Station 6, Division 2, were patrolling routes in their area of responsibility in two vehicles to stop the smuggling of illegal workers to Thailand.
At approximately 7 a.m., a pickup truck transporting migrant workers was spotted but the driver zoomed ahead with police in pursuit as he headed at high speed from Sai Yok district to Kanchanaburi city.
Upon reaching Nong Sam Phran village in Wang Dong subdistrict, Kanchanaburi City district, the vehicle overturned, resulting in numerous male and female migrant workers getting injured.
Rescue workers from the Pitakkarn Foundation are en route to assist the injured and transport them to Paholpolpayuhasena Hospital.
Initially, it is estimated that around 20 people were injured out of a total of 50-60 people in the vehicle.
