British man arrested after killing Thai wife in Isan

A BRITISH man was arrested today (Jan. 27)  after killing his wife at a homestay in Maha Sarakham city in the Northeast then fleeing to Khon Kaen city, TV Channel 7 said.

Police at Don Hwan station rushed to the homestay at Khok Ko subdistrict where Ms. Phatree, or Pia, 44, had died after being shot in the left temple with the bullet exiting the other side. A .38 caliber shell casing was found near a planter four metres away.

The suspect, only identified as Mr. Anthony, 58, a British national and the deceased woman’s husband,  had fled in a white four-door pickup truck.

As police believed the suspect would go to the school in Maha Sarakham city where his son and daughter are studying, they quickly sent a team to secure the compound with the deceased woman’s relatives also protected.

However they later found the suspect’s pickup truck abandoned in Khon Kaen city. The suspect later contacted his friend in Chonburi saying that he wanted to surrender and police then arrested him at a downtown hotel.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Phladet Nongwa-ngo, commander of the Maha Sarakham Provincial Police, who inspected the crime scene said domestic dispute appeared to have led to the foreign man using a 9mm handgun to kill his Thai wife.
