A THAI COUPLE are deeply unhappy after a diamond engagement ring got pickpocketed at Electric Daisy Carnival Thailand 2026 (EDC) music festival in Phuket last evening (Jan. 17) with the thief also using credit cards to steal a large sum of cash, Amarin TV said this evening.
A reporter from this TV station interviewed Mr. Golf who said that they had circulated some photos of the diamond engagement ring engraved with their names “Acare & Golf” online asking jewellery stores and pawnshops in Phuket and nearby areas to contact them if anyone brings it in to cash it.
The two of them had already got engaged last October but upon hearing that there is an engagement zone at the EDC event they wanted to go through the proposal again to get photos as a memento.
Golf added that they arrived at the festival late having had dinner at a beach and went straight to the stage for the photo shoot. It was very crowded and he kept checking his shoulder bag to make sure his wallet containing the ring was still there. While listening to music a large man bumped into him with considerable force and his fiancée also stumbled forward.
He admitted that he did not think much of it and did not check his bag but 10 minutes later his mobile phone rang to alert him of numerous credit card transactions – 15-20 times – in foreign currency, specifically Dubai AED.
He quickly checked his bag and saw that both the engagement ring and his wallet in which there were six to seven credit cards were stolen. Altogether he lost around 300,000-400,000 baht plus the ring which is of immeasurable value and a 500 baht note his grandmother had given him before she died.
After that, they went to the police station and consulted with the officers. Deputy Superintendent Bill helped facilitate the process and advised them to file a police report at the Cheang Talay police station with the investigative team to follow up on the case.
Golf added that he was worried about his fiancée losing the ring at the music festival so kept it in his wallet which was then placed within his shoulder bag.
“I was being as careful as possible, but unfortunately, a thief pickpocketed me. It’s unacceptable that criminals were present at the event, I’d like to see stricter security measures, increased patrols, and more CCTV cameras,” he said.
At 7 a.m. this morning someone called to say they found the couple’s ID cards and driver’s licences with the thief dumping them after stealing his wallet.
