Phuket luxury hotel’s security guard chief charged for trying to break into DJ’s room

THE security guard chief of a luxury hotel in Phuket has been charged with attempted burglary after trying to break into a female DJ’s room by using the master keycard then deleting the CCTV footage but the hotel managed to recover the clip that clearly captured the incident, Amarin TV said this evening (Jan. 18).

His arrest followed a viral social media video showing the DJ, Ms. Mirinda Nalinratanawadee, feeling insecure while staying at this hotel.

She had filed a report at Cherng Talay police station stating that on Friday (Jan. 16) at approximately 10 p.m. while she was staying in her room an unidentified man attempted to enter it by using a keycard but was unsuccessful because the door was locked.

Police investigators examined the hotel’s CCTV footage and identified the perpetrator as Sgt. Maj. Kanisorn (surname withheld), 39, the head security guard of the hotel.

Investigation revealed that the perpetrator had finished his shift at 4 p.m. but did not return home, instead secretly rested at their office. Later, wearing a T-shirt, shorts and flip-flops, he used the housekeeper’s master keycard to try to open several rooms near the victim’s.

He then went to the victim’s room, rang the door bell, knocked and shouted “He!!o!” before hiding in a corner. A little later he returned and tried to open the door with the master keycard but was unsuccessful because the victim had locked it and used her hands to keep it shut while calling for help.

The chief security guard then fled and deleted a surveillance camera video clip with this being later recovered.

The hotel subsequently brought the perpetrator to the police station, where he was charged with “attempted nighttime burglary.” The hotel has also terminated his employment contract.

Initially, police have not detained the suspect because he surrendered thus not necessitating the issuing of an arrest warrant. However, he has been instructed to appear at Phuket Provincial Court tomorrow and if he does not an arrest warrant will be issued.
