THE Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is expecting New Year celebration revenue to reach 70.105-76.5 billion baht while anticipating approximately 1.4 to 1.5 million foreign tourists to fly here to ring in 2026, TV Channel 7 said today (Dec. 30).
Ms. Thapanee Kiatpaiboon, TAT’s governor, said income from foreign tourists during this festive season is expected to reach 51.6- 58 billion baht while that from 4.96 million Thai holidaymakers will likely reach 18.5 billion baht, with the latter surging by 7% in both total number of tourists and revenue.
TAT has arranged New Year countdown events at two potential tourist cities as follows:
1/ Phayao Countdown Flora Fest 2026: The Light of Love in Phayao, Honouring the Mother of the Nation, will be held during Dec. 28-31, 2025 at the Phokhun Ngam Mueang Activity Area, Kwan Phayao, Phayao province. The area will be transformed spectacularly with several activities and a lantern release to pay respect before the countdown to New Year 2026.
2/ The Amazing Thailand Su-ngai Kolok Countdown 2026: This event will be held during Dec. 28-31, 2025, at Sirindhorn Park, Su-ngai Kolok district, Narathiwat province. It will showcase the beauty of lights using light mapping techniques under the concept of “Harmony Beyond Borders.” The celebratory atmosphere will be enhanced by performances by leading artists and local cultural performances such as Likay Hulu, Tari Kipas dance and Pencak Silat.
Thapanee said that these two events are important opportunities to show the potential of the two cities to become the country’s new tourist destination. They will also help channel tourism from major cities to smaller ones and nearby areas, creating jobs and income that will be distributed evenly to the grassroots economy.
