FORMER prime minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra today (Nov. 27) shared a photo of her father de facto Pheu Thai boss-turn-inmate Thaksin Shinawatra taken during a family visit which Klong Prem Central Prison is allowing from Nov. 24 to Dec. 1 to mark the New Year festival, Naewna newspaper said this afternoon.
In this photo Thaksin is wearing prison uniform with his hair cropped and is lovingly hugged by his daughters, Paetongtarn and Pintongta Shinawatra Kunakornwong, flanked by their spouses Mr. Pitaka Suksawat and Nuttaphong Kunakornwong.
This is the most intimate visit they have had since Thaksin was ordered back to jail by the Supreme Court on Sep. 9 as his six-month-long fakeout at Police Hospital until his release on parole early last year did not hold up. He was moved from Bangkok Remand Prison to Klong Prem Central Prison the very first day.
The visit likely lasted two full hours as allowed by the Corrections Department for special visits, with this permitted three to four times a year to mark festivals such as New Year and Songkran.
In posting this photo of Thaksin with a buzz cut on Instagram Paetongtarn said, “Today, the prison organised a family visit, allowing relatives to meet, hug, and eat together without having to talk on the phone through the glass panel. We also visited a small market where older and younger inmates cooked and sold artifacts they had made. I had the opportunity to patronise several vendors.
“For a moment, I felt like I was Miss Paetongtarn, walking hand in hand with my father and siblings through the market like I did as a child (my father really loved the fresh market because he could choose for himself according to the menu to be cooked on Sundays).”
