National Security Council meeting on Thai-Khmer peace accord tomorrow: PM

PRIME Minister-cum-Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said this evening (Nov. 10) that the National Security Council (NSC) will be holding a meeting tomorrow with the urgent issue being Thai-Cambodian ceasefire agreement, Naewna newspaper and TV Channel 7 said.

Asked whether the accord would be ended or torn up, Anutin said for now Thailand is ending it first but there is a process and procedures to do so.

“The incident happened today, I called a meeting on November 11 and it will be an opportunity to meet all relevant parties, including the military and the Foreign Affairs Ministry,” he said.

However he declined to divulge what the meeting will discuss and also refused to comment on whether the military is now ready for combat.

Meanwhile Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang, former Second Army Region commander and adviser to Army Commander Pana Khlaeoplotthuk , said the landmine a soldier stepped on today which led to him and another member of his team getting injured, was a new one and placed at a regularly patrolled route at Huai Ta Maria area in Kantharalak district, Sisaket province.

He also mentioned that it was not then acting prime minister Phumtham Wechayachai who ordered him to ceasefire just six hours after the border battle broke out on July 24.

Nor did Defence Minister Gen. Nattapol Nakphanit, who then was both acting and deputy defence Minister, then Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Songwit Noonpakdee or Army Chief Gen. Pana do so.

He further clarified that no official ceasefire order was issued, but it was rather a discussion at the general commander level.

As he is concerned about the lives of those carrying out their duties he urged that no one ask him who this person is, particularly because he does not want to cause division or inconvenience, so for that reason he has decided to not reveal this person’s name is for the rest of his life.
