Chinese restaurant in Thailand places Hun Sen’s images at entrance for people to step on

SOON after China’s Ambassador to Cambodia voiced support for the neighbbouring country protecting its national sovereignty and security, a Facebook user shared a video clip of a Chinese restaurant in Thailand having placed senior Khmer leader Hun Sen’s images on the floor next to the entrance leading to customers and staff stepping in them numerous times, Naewna newspaper said today (Oct 12).

The Facebook user, whose Thai name translates to “Prach Samsee”, said in sharing this video clip, “It’s probably a Chinese restaurant in Thailand… I found some information and the incident probably occurred in August 55555.”

He later shared photos of this restaurant with the accompanying caption saying,  “It’s probably a Chinese restaurant in Thailand… Oh my… I thought it was a restaurant in Sichuan (I want to mention that the name of the restaurant is very similar to the one in Sichuan). Someone said it happened in August.”

Last Wednesday (Oct. 8) China’s Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin said in a Facebook post, “China firmly supports Cambodia in safeguarding its national sovereignty, security and development interests, and will always be a reliable partner in Cambodia’s development,” PPTVHD36 said.

This attracted numerous comments from Cambodians expressing their admiration. One person said, “Cambodia sincerely thanks China for its unwavering support in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and development interests. We attach great importance to this lasting cooperation and are confident that China will continue to stand by our side, especially as we face ongoing challenges to territorial integrity.”

Meanwhile Thais expressed their dissatisfaction with the Chinese envoy’s comment pointing out that the Thai government has insisted that the country did not initiate the border conflict nor has it invaded Cambodia.

One Thai said, “Thailand will defend its sovereignty from invaders as well.”

Another Thai said, “Thailand will not be a battlefield for a superpower, but Thailand has its dignity and will defend its sovereignty and territory.”

Earlier Hun Sen posted a message condemning a video circulating on social media showing a Thai citizen shooting at his photo to win prizes calling the act “inhumane” and “immoral.”

Later the spokesperson for the government of Cambodia slammed the actions of individuals in Thailand who used portraits of Cambodia’s top leaders—including Hun Sen, Prime Minister Hun Manet, and senior military officials— for disrespectful and offensive purposes.

The statement said these acts include displaying the portraits as targets for shooting games, attaching them to scarecrows, and publicly insulting them using offensive language,
