Anutin not bothered by Pheu Thai’s legal moves

NEWLY-APPOINTED Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said this afternoon (Sep. 7) he is not concerned about some Pheu Thai MPs’ petition to remove him from premiership over Bhumjaithai having signed an agreement with the People’s Party for the the latter’s conditional support that led to him getting 311 votes in the House of Representatives on Friday, Amarin TV said this afternoon.

Anutin had received a royal command for his appointment as the new prime minister this morning.

Commenting of Pheu Thai MPs submitting a petition to House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha to ask the Constitutional Court to rule whether the memorandum of agreement (MOA)signed by Bhumajaithai and People’s parties constituted one political party dominating another and interfering for purpose of exchanging benefits, Anutin said it is within their legal rights to take this step.

He added that this MOA is no different than Pheu Thai’s proposal that if the People’s supported their camp’s prime-ministerial candidate, Chaikasem Nitisiri, he would dissolve the House and call an election right away.

If the People’s had accepted their proposal it would have been considered an agreement but these two parties need something more binding that just signing MOA because Pheu Thai had previously breached an agreement with the People’s.

Anutin was referring to the agreement between these two camps after the 2023 election which would have led to Pita Limjaroenrat, former leader of Move Forward Party which was dissolved by court but reborn as People’s Party, becoming prime minister.

Instead a stunning about-face was made to form a coalition government with the uncles’ camps, that is Palang Pracharath led by Prawit “Uncle Pom” Wongsuwan and Ruam Thai Sang Chart under de facto boss/former coup leader-turned-prime minister/ current privy councillor Prayut “Uncle Tu” Chan-o-cha.

Anutin told reporters this matter should be addressed to Pheu Thai..

Under the People’s-Bhumjaithai MOA which Anutin signed he accepted their conditions to return power to the people by dissolving the House and calling a general election in four months after his government policy statement has been addressed at parliament and holding a public referendum for the people nationwide to decide whether the coup junta-designed constitution of 2017 should be amended as a whole by an elected Constitution Amendment Committee.
