A YOUNG contract teacher who said he was not earning enough to make ends meet snatched almost a million baht worth of gold ornaments from a shop in Ubon Ratchathani province but the brave saleswoman grabbed his legs as he was attempting to flee and called for help leading to his arrest, Amarin TV said this morning (July 16).
The teacher, later identified as Mr. Anusorn (surname withheld), 33, walked into the gold shop located in a shopping mall at this northeastern province yesterday afternoon wearing a long-sleeved black shirt, black pants and a red full-face helmet.
After threatening the saleswoman he grabbed 22 baht weight of gold ornaments but just as he was escaping she quickly grabbed his legs and called for help with a security guard and a shopper then helping her nab him.
Investigation revealed that he was a contract teacher at school in the same district and while he confessed to committing the crime out of financial difficulty police were still checking whether he had mounted to gambling debt.
