A BERSERK foreign man believed to be high on drugs was rescued after crawling naked in a large drainpipe behind a condo in Bangkok and sent to a hospital, Amarin TV said today (July 14).
A police team from Bang Khun Thian station went to investigate after the juristic person of this condominium on Kanlapaphruek road, Chom Thong district, contacted that a man had fallen in the gap between concrete slaps covering a drainpipe at the rear of the building near a canal and went to investigate.
Upon arrival they found Mr. Jack (surname withheld), 28, an American national, crawling naked in the drainpipe with his legs protruding out and this visible from the canal.
Por Tek Tung rescuers were called to pull him out while Bangkok Disaster Prevention and Mitigation officials were asked to send cutting equipment and concrete drilling machines.
The man was conscious and during the rescue operation said in English that he did not need any help and could get out on his own, but rescuers continued working on pulling him out by using various tools to cut, chisel and drill the concrete slabs.
However, the American man kept trying to crawl further into the drainpipe and frantically yelled at the rescuers and police team. A rescuer then likewise crawled into the drainpipe and used a piece of cloth to tie him up after which he was hauled back up.
While being rescued the berserk man bit a woman rescuer’s watch strap and chewed it.
After being brought up his still was not talking coherently with the rescuers then tying him on a board and upon examining his body found that he had only suffered minor abrasion but seemed terrified as if hallucinating on drugs.
Another foreigner who lives in this same condo then came to try to communicate with the rescued man but he was still incoherent, only saying that he used to live there with his Thai girlfriend.
Rescuers then took him to Somdej Chaopraya Hospital to treat his injuries and frenzy, while waiting for his relatives and the American embassy to come and join the investigation. As for the condominium juristic person, they are checking whether this man ever lived there.
