Another suspect held in planting of bomb-like devices in Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi

 

SECURITY officers arrested another suspect in the planting of bomb-like devices in Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi provinces late last night soon after he boarded a van in Phuket to travel to Far South Yala province, TV Channel 7 said this morning (June 28).

The suspect, Mr. Rusman (surname withheld), was closely monitored by the officers who were able to apprehend him at a checkpoint just as the van was about to leave Phuket.

He was then taken to 43rd Ranger Regiment Task Force for questioning so as to track down other members of this gang.

Altogether eight suspicious objects resembling improvised explosive devices were recovered and destroyed in Phuket after two men were caught driving in Phang Nga with a bomb stashed in their sedan before dawn last Tuesday (June 24), Amarin TV said.

The eight locations are as follows:

– Last Tuesday evening, (June 24), a suspicious motorcycle was found parked at the parking lot of Phuket’s domestic passenger terminal. An object similar to a fire extinguisher was found hidden under the motorbike’s seat. It was decided to shoot it and the device’s circuit board was successfully destroyed;

– On Thursday (June 26) a device that had been placed in a cooler tumbler and buried 50 metres deep in the sand around 400 metres from Bangla police station, Patong beach, was shot and the circuit board destroyed

– Just before noon last Thursday, after searching for two days, a device was found in a snack can which had been hidden at the base of a cemented area covered with rocks used for sitting at Promthep Cape. This was destroyed by cutting the circuit board;

– Last Thursday evening a suspicious object, a control panel hidden in a power bank and placed under a beam at Sarasin bridge viewpoint building was found;

– Yesterday morning, (June 27), officers found a device buried in the sand near a tree at Surin beach after searching for three days;

– After that officers recovered a device buried in the sand at Nai Yang breach;

– Then in the afternoon officers found a circuit board in a cooler tumbler buried in the sand near a large tree at Patong beach, approximately 50 metres from where the first one was found. This was destroyed;

– Last evening a device was found buried in the sand near a tree at Surin beach after searching for almost three days.
