AFTER a brief clash between Thai and Cambodian troops at Chong Bok, Ubon Ratchathani province, early this morning (May 28) a senior army officer said the Cambodian soldiers were spotted digging two trenches in the claimed area in violation of MOU 43, Naewna newspaper said.
Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang, Second Army Region commander, said a Suranaree Force patrol unit found Cambodian troops digging trenches, similar to those dug on Hill 745, at Chong Bok, which is a claimed area. The Thai troops moved to negotiate with the Cambodian soldiers but they opened fire with the clash lasting around 10 minutes from 5.30 a.m.
The Thai troops are safe, with no casualties in this clash, and commanders of both sides are currently discussing and negotiating.
“We confirm that the Thai military is performing its duty to protect our sovereignty according to the 1:50,000 plan. In overlapping areas of both countries, there are continuous patrols to prevent the other party from encroaching. All parties must adhere to MOU 43,” Lt Gen. Boonsin said,
