SIX POLICE OFFICERS were killed in a plane crash in the sea off Hua Hin today (April 25), police said.
Those killed in the plane crash were three police pilots, one police aircraft engineer and two police mechanics aboard the Viking Air DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft which crashlanded in the shallow sea off the tourist resort city in the western part of Thailand.
According to eyewitnesses, the police plane, assigned to take part in a police parachuting exercise in Hua Hin, was flying at an unusually low altitude shortly before the fatal incident occurred.
The police are investigating the cause of the deadly crash with the black box retrieved from the wreckage of the Canadian-built twin turboprop aircraft which the pilots were conducting a flight test.
The National Police procured three DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft in 2020 including the one which crashed probably due to engine trouble.
