ANOTHER suspect in the case against Dr. Boon Vanasin, 86, and his accomplices on the charges of jointly defrauding the public and borrowing money in a fraudulent manner has been arrested after the female broker reportedly returned to Thailand, Amarin TV said late last night (Apr. 15).
The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) told the press that Ms. Kotchaporn Suwannakut, 39, had been arrested with losses in this case estimated to reach over 14.264 billion baht.
There will be a press conference today to give details of her arrest.
Of the 16 suspects wanted in this case, including Dr. Boon’s ex-wife Mrs. Charuwan Vanasin, 79, and their daughter Ms. Nalin Vanasin, 51, 15 have now been arrested with Dr. Boon being the last suspect on the run.
Aside from Dr. Boon, two other suspects, both brokers, Ms. Thitiporn Chalermrattanaprateep and Ms. Kotchaporn, had fled overseas while Dr. Boon is reportedly hiding in an Asean country. Interpol Red Notice had been issued for all three of them.
Thitiporn was arrested in Guangzhou, China, and extradited to Thailand earlier this month.
Dr. Boon is the founder of Thonburi Hospital and chairman of Thonburi Healthcare Group Plc which is the owner of this private hospital chain that has seven branches both in Bangkok and the provinces.
Dr. Boon has been vocal about vaccines, especially the import of Moderna mRNA into Thailand, including criticising the government’s delay in allocating imported vaccines to Thais.
