Somchai gives Prawit high marks, slams PM

FORMER election commissioner Somchai Srisutthiyakorn rated the performance of the opposition MPs and Prime Minister Paetongtorn Shinawatra during this morning’s (March 24) no-confidence debate being impressed by Palang Pracharath leader Prawit Wongsuwan while slamming the premier for her brief replies, Naewna newspaper said.

(1) Opposition and People’s Party leader Natthapong Ruengpanyawut:

He debated smoothly and tried to cover a wide range of issues, nothing very impressive, still unable to explain the term “‘deal for the country”  – he gets 6.5 out of 10 points;

(2) Palang Pracharat leader Prawit Wongsuwan

Debated for 10 minutes and well-controlled the content, hit hard on alleged dishonesty, concealment of legal transactions and false asset declarations, which beautifully opened the floor for following debaters. Rate his effort that won applause at 8 out of 10 points;

(3) Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra:

Got up to answer for less than a minute, sparked a joke by using former prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s phrase “What the senior members said is not true.” In Somchai’s opinion people might think this is sharp but this joke only discredits herself and “She’s more suitable to run and play with her children than to be the Prime Minister.” He gave her 1 out of 10 points.

(4) Palang Pracharth MP Pimporn Pornphruethiphan:

Debated smoothly but the content’s mainly focused on alleged false declaration of assets and liabilities, which if true would be a big issue and could lead to removal by the National Anti-Corruption Commission. Did her homework well. He gave her 7.5 out of 10 points.

(5) People’s MP Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn:

Debated on allegations of false declaration of assets and liabilities, sham transactions,and tax evasion by the Prime Minister and members of the Shinawatra family. He expanded this from what Prawit and Pimporn had mentioned but some of his style and content was too playful and sarcastic. Gave him 8.5 out of 10 points.

Somchai added that the Prime Minister walked out of the meeting chamber after an hour and 2 minutes. A spokesperson said she had to go open an event. It remains to be seen when she will return to listen to the debate and give answers and how long they would be.
