AFTER a long gap of 19 years de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra visited Yaowarat road (Chinatown) this evening (March 20) with lots of locals and tourists taking selfies with him, Naewna newspaper said.
Thaksin and his entourage, including Pheu Thai MP Kokaew Pikulthong, the party’s deputy spokesman Mr. Chirawat Aranyakanon and some businessmen he has known for a long time and visited him during his self-exile in Dubai, dined at his favourite restaurant, Chinatown Scala Shark Fin.
People crowded around taking photos with him as he strolled down Yaowarat with some saying they have liked him from when he set up Thai Rak Thai Party in 1998 with this later dissolved by the Constitutional Tribunal in 2007.
He also bought a lot of things from vendors and was still strolling around there at 8 p.m.
Korkaew said Thaksin’s visit to Yaowarat does not have any political meaning, only that he wanted to pay a visit with his business friends. When he was in Dubai he had said that if he ever returned to Thailand he would come to this main artery of Bangkok’s Chinatown.
