A MOROCCAN man wanted for the murder of his former gay partner in Chiang Mai last December has been arrested in Turkey, Naewna newspaper said late afternoon today (Feb. 20).
Mr. Thitikan (surname withheld), or Doctor Sammy, the owner of a popular clinic in Chiang Mai, was killed there on Dec. 4 with his body found on Dec.6
The suspect, Mr. Bilal Sefinij, 30, was the deceased doctor’s former boyfriend with police believing he killed his former partner out of jealousy after failing to reconcile with him then flew to Hong Kong.
Police went through surveillance camera clips and worked out his escape route and also questioned eyewitnesses. They then asked the Chiang Mai Provincial Court to issue an arrest warrant for Sefinij and this was approved.
Pol. Col. Prachya Thitla, superintendent of Chiang Mai City police station, has now been told by the Foreign Affairs Division police team that Interpol informed them Sefinij was arrested at a hotel in Turkey and they are awaiting coordination to send him back to Chiang Mai for prosecution.
The deceased clinic owner had been strangled with a red rope which police found with red hooks at a clothesline.
