‘Parliament collapses’ hashtag top X.com trend today

GOING VIRAL on social media today (Feb. 14) is People’s Party calling on Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to dissolve the House of Representatives and hold a general election after a lack of quorum at a joint session for the second day in a row prevented deliberation of two constitution amendment bills with this being the last chance for an amended charter to come into effect by 2070 election, Naewna newspaper and Infoquest.co.th said.

Turning into today’s top trend for Thailand on X.com was #ParliamentCollapses with there being over 20,000 posts on this issue by 8.30 p.m.

People’s leader Nattapong Ruangpanyawut said his party was extremely disappointed because today’s agenda to deliberate amending Section 256 and adding Section 15/1 failed to take place due to lack of quorum.

“We believe that the process of amending the constitution this time is a straightforward path. There is no need to go around in circles because we do not believe that going around in circles as is currently happening will lead to the destination that the people want, a new constitution,” he said.

He called on the Prime Minister to dissolve the House of Representatives if the constitution cannot be amended with all coalition parties having said they intended to do so.

Mr. Parit Wacharasindhu said in order to successfully amend the constitution there is a clear provision that it must receive sufficient support from both chambers,

Pheu Thai was concerned that if the deliberation of the charter amendment took place it might not get sufficient support especially from Bhumjaithai Party and some senators whose opinion is similar to this party’s and might not vote in favour of it.

He asked the public to consider whether obstacles in the path of charter amendment lay in lack of support from Bhumjaithai and this group of senators or that there is a conflict among coalition partners.
