NATIONAL Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kitrat Phanphet today (Feb. 11) transferred two senior police officers, commander of 5th Immigration Bureau and commander of Tak provincial police, while investigation is undertaken to determine whether they are linked to the scam hub in Myanmar’s Myawaddy township and human trafficking, Naewna newspaper said.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Ekkarat Intasueb, commander of the 5th Immigration Bureau and acting commander of the 6th Immigration Bureau, was shunted out after news spread on social media that a police officer holding the rank of police major general was involved in the illegal business at Myawaddy entertainment venue and casino complex where money laundering, call-centre scams plus other crimes are committed.
Also transferred was Pol. Maj. Gen. Samrit Emkamol, commander of Tak provincial police, after reports reached the headquarters of tourists being deceived by fraudsters then disappearing across the border to Myanmar to work at scam centres.
In addition there have been illegal border crossings by natural channels in areas under the jurisdiction of Mae Sot, Mae Ramat and Phop Phra police stations.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Samrit had ordered superintendents of these three police stations transferred to work at Provincial Police Region 6 while a fact-finding committee investigated allegations of involvement in these offences.
However, Pol. Gen. Kitrat later ordered the transfer of Pol. Maj. Gen. Samrit to the police headquarters to ensure that the fact-finding investigation proceeds smoothly and efficiently.
