Sedan seized over driving offence on expressway

A DRIVER who was filmed overtaking other vehicles from both left and right sides on the expressway had his sedan seized with his one-month jail sentence suspended for a year-long probation, his driver’s licence suspended for six months and also slapped with 5,000 baht fine, Amarin TV said this evening (Nov. 19).

The Dusit Provincial Court passed this sentence on Mr. Pitiphat Kanchanaphanurat after prosecutors filed a lawsuit on charges of careless driving without concern for safety of other road users. As the defendant had confessed, the two months in jail was reduced to one month and fine cut from 10,000 baht to 5,000 baht. With the one-month reduced to a year-long probation, he has to report to the authorities four times and do 12 hours of community service.

His sedan, a Tesla, was seized.

As he was driving with an expired driver’s licence, another 2,000 baht fine was imposed.

This followed a Facebook user, who goes by the name “Buffalo of the Road V1” sharing an approximately three-minute long video clip showing a white Tesla cutting in front of other vehicles on Si Rat expressway from both left and right sides.

Pitipat said he had asked police to coordinate with the other party to apologise but he refused to meet him.

He added that he drove recklessly because he was stressed out after an argument with his girlfriend over turning on the GPS which gave the wrong directions.
