AFTER four-month closure Phu Kradueng National Park in Si Than subdistrict, Phu Kradueng district, Loei province, is reopening to tourists on Oct. 1, TV Channel 7 said today (Sep. 21).
This is one of Thailand’s best known national parks and covers an area of 348 square km with a high point of 1,316 m (4,318 ft) at Khok Moei. It was proclaimed a national park on Nov. 23, 1962, making it the country’s second one after Khao Yai, Wikipedia said.
Its natural abundance and diverse ecosystem takes in grassy plains, hillside pine forests, jungle and maple forests and it is home to wild roses and shaggy-petaled Erias. The overhanging cliffs and ravines which offer great views were formed from sandstone and there is a large, heart-shaped plateau at a height of 400-1,200 metres above mean sea level.
Mr. Samret Phu Saensri, head of this national park, said clean camping ground and accommodations have been prepared for tourists to stay overnight. An assistance centre has also been set up to take care of their safety.
Officials have been trained to provide emergency services and return lost items to tourists with this assistance getting a very good response last year.
