Pre-dawn floods swamp hundreds of houses in Phayao

TORRENTIAL rain led to forest runoffs flooding over 400 houses in Phayao before dawn this morning (Aug. 21) with the residents barely having time to save their belongings, Amarin TV said.

Heavy rainstorms lasting all day and night led to waves of forest runoff gushing into  Baan Wiang Moo 1 and Baan Pin Moo 7 villages in Dok Kham Tai district with the floodwaters so high it is impossible for small cars to drive through the key road.

After two waves of forest runoff swamped the two villages, another wave gushed in the early hours of this morning with officials rushing to help the residents and inspect the damage.

Phayao has been hit with heavy rain continuously for several days with some areas remaining flooded while people here are on the lookout for forest runoffs especially areas near canals where accumulated floodwaters usually overflow.
