AN elevator at Suvarnabhumi airport fell on top a repairman while he was fixing an adjoining unit this afternoon (Aug. 13) killing him on the spot, TV Channel 7 said.
The malfunctioning lift is located on the first floor of Concourse A building which is only used by officials and employees and it is there that Mr. Wisetrat (surname withheld), 23, died of serious head injuries.
An investigation reveals that while repairing this lift, the deceased dropped a wrench on the other side of the elevator and bent to pick it up. However just then the counterweight of the adjacent lift, that weighs almost two tonnes and was running normally, slid down and hit his head.
Officials questioned his colleagues and ascertained that it was an accident.
Mr. Kittipong Kittikachorn, the airport’s director, said upon hearing of the accident he ordered officials to investigate and determine the real cause of his death and denied this was caused by the second life too malfunctioning.
He also instructed the contractor to help the family of the deceased.
