A RED FLAG was raised at Pattaya City’s Maritime Disaster Prevention Office today (Dec. 25) to prohibit small fishing boats, speedboats, jet skis and parasailing boats from leaving the shore as strong winds pose a danger to putting out to sea, TV Channel 7 said this afternoon (Dec. 25).
While large fishing boats could still set sail, they were warned to navigate carefully.
Additionally a team of police and army officers accompanied by Regional Habour Office and Tourism and Sports Ministry officials inspected boats at Bali Hai pier.
They checked the licence to operate these boats while stressing that the crew must focus on the safety of tourists and not exceed the permitted limit by overcrowding their vessel.
They were also briefed on how they should behave when travelling and ensuring they have indispensable life-saving equipment, such as life buoys and life jackets, on board.
This followed the capsizing and sinking of three tourist boats over the weekend with all holidaymakers safely rescued.
A catamaran carrying 27 Russian tourists from Koh Larn to Pattaya was split in half by huge waves on Saturday night but the tourists were all quickly brought ashore.
A night boat carrying 70 tourists foundered off Koh Tao on Friday morning again all were safely rescued as were a big party of 73 foreign tourists after their speedboat capsized while travelling from Lipe island off Satun to Lanta island off Krabi yesterday.
