120 million baht seized in raid on two gambling websites

TWO GAMBLING WEBSITES based in Bangkok have been raided, a combined sum of 120 million baht in cash impounded and 20 suspected gambling operators arrested, police said today (Dec.22).

The Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau police recently raided the two separate online gambling websites, namely ufabet-jc.com and play.beer777.com, at condominiums in Hua Mark area and at a house in Lard Prao area of the capital and seized wads of cash totaling about 120 million baht and some 30 million baht in valuables including luxury sedans as well as computers and equipment allegedly used in the illicit gambling scams.

Arrested on charges of running the illegal online business were 20 suspected gambling website operators, including programmers and rogue account holders.

Amongst those suspects are two Singaporean nationals, identified as Wong Wei Jun Desmond, 38, and Wei Quan Ho, 31, whilst several other suspects are yet at large, the police said.

An estimated 13 billion baht in cash was believed to have circulated amongst those suspected gambling website operators and their customers in a year, the police said.
