Goldman Sachs, Estee Lauder, Microsoft and Google keen on investing in Thailand: Srettha

PRIME MINISTER-CUM-Finance Minister Srettha Thavisin said after holding talks with executives of some top American companies that Goldman Sachs, Estee Lauder, Microsoft and Google are interested in investing in this country, Matichon said today (Sep. 22).

After a video call at 7 a.m. yesterday morning to address an Asian Business Council meeting in Thailand with this being a gathering of more than 80 Asean businessmen, among them 10 Thai businessmen, and is the first meeting here in a decade, Srettha had a breakfast meeting with second-highest-ranking executive of Goldman Sachs, a leading global investment banking, securities and investment management firm.

As this company has offices in Hong Kong and Singapore, Srettha told the executive that Thailand is wide open to businesses and investors to come in and would like a global finance firm to link up in all dimensions with Thais going overseas also needing the services of such a company.

The Goldman Sachs executive replied that his company will look into what opportunities there are to set up a financial institution here.

The Prime Minister then met with the top executive of the cosmetics company Estee Lauder, who is over 90 years old and despite that came to meet him in person.

Upon being asked to invest in Thailand, he asked about the quality of seaweed here as it is an important ingredient in making cosmetics.

Srettha told his team to look into the issue of seaweed and possibly setting up a seaweed farm as this is an important point in Estee Lauder considering investing here.

He then talked to Microsoft, which was very helpful because this company is interested in making a big investment in many areas and he now has another appointment for talks on Nov. 13, 2023 when he will be attending an Apec summit in San Francisco.

“This company wants both public and private sectors to use its cloud services and should it make a cloud investment in Thailand it will help increase the skills of Thai people,” he said,

Yesterday afternoon he held talks with Google’s second-highest-ranking executive who came in person to meet him. Google already has a headquarters in Thailand so he knows their team well.

Google has plans to invest in Thailand and more talks will be held during the Apec summit.

The previous day Srettha held talks with Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Inc. and SpaceX via video conferencing.

Both shared views on achieving sustainable development for humanity and a clean world.

Srettha is confident there will be increased cooperation in electric vehicles and space exploration for the benefit of not just Thailand but the world.
