The Lisa effect: Ayutthaya temple puts up eye-catching sign to draw visitors

AFTER Thai K-pop star Lisa Manoban, a member of Korean supergroup Blackpink, visited three Ayutthaya temples recently leading to tourists and worshippers thronging them, a fourth temple has put up a sign “Lisa passed this temple” to likewise draw the crowds, said today (June 27).

The abbot of Wat Intharam Phra Khru Palad Yutthana Thanapano told reporters that it was a disciple’s idea to put up this sign after Lisa visited three other temples,  Wat Mahathat, Wat Na Phra Meru and Wat Mae Nang Pluem, and posted photos on social media particular of  Wat Mae Nang Pluem with this immediately leading to a spike in the number of visitors.

As Wat Intharam is also beautiful with an interesting history the sign, “Lisa passed this temple so stop by to pray and ask for blessings” would attract tourists and worshippers to come in, he added.

Wat Intharam is also just 500 metres away from Wat Mae Nang Pluem and Lisa would have passed by to get there, he said, adding his temple has a beautiful Ubosot hall and with the landscape and architecture around it having been renovated to be a source of knowledge about Thai literature.
