WITH THE number of Covid cases having increased as expected the government reassured that there are sufficient hospital beds nationwide for new patients with occupancy rate currently being 22%, Naewna newspaper said this morning (May 31).
Moreover it is Bangkok and its adjacent provinces that have the highest number of Covid cases.
Mr. Anucha Burapachaisri, a Prime Minister’s Office spokesman, said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is concerned that most of the deaths are occurring among the 608 group, that is the elderly over sixty years of age, people suffering from chronic diseases and pregnant women.
They are urged to quickly get their annual booster jab with this particularly applying to those who have not got the recommended number of Covid shots or have not done so over the past three months.
Latest figures from the Public Health Ministry show that 2,970 Covid patients were admitted to hospital last week, or an average of 424 cases a day. Of the weekly total there were 425 cases of pneumonia, 253 patients requiring oxygen and 42 deaths or an average of six a day.
The ministry added that this upswing in infection is due to the long Songkran festival, new school year having started and the onset of the rainy season.
