THE COVID crisis in Bangkok remains dire with 956 out of 3,174 new cases appearing in the past 24 hours being in the capital which also currently has 210 patients in severe condition, Siam Rath newspaper said this afternoon (June 23).
Out of 51 fatalities over the past day, 34 were in Bangkok, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said.
New clusters have cropped up five provinces with two being in Bangkok, one at a sewing factory in Bang Kho Laem district and the other a jewellery factory in Khlong San district, with altogether 80 cases logged.
Two clusters also appeared in Samut Prakan province, at an ice factory and construction company, totalling 184 cases.
Samut Sakhon too had two new clusters, at a tire factory and a food processing plant, totalling 11 cases,
Pathum Thani’s one new cluster is at an auto parts factory with 22 cases.
A cluster at a military camp in Ratchaburi brought in 26 cases.
Dr. Taweesilp Visanuyothin, CCSA’s spokesman, said of today’s 3,174 cases, 3,148 were domestic with 2,392 emerging in service and health systems, 720 found through proactive search in communities, 36 appearing in prisons and detention centres. At the sametime 26 overseas arrivals were found to be infected.
This took the cumulative confirmed total since the start of the pandemic to 228,539 and in the current wave that began in April to 199,676.
Today’s 51 fatalities took the death toll since the onset of the pandemic to 1,744 and in the current wave 1,650.
Another 1,941 patients were cured taking total recoveries since the start of the pandemic to 189,777 and in the ongoing wave 162,351.
Altogether 37,018 patients are still undergoing treatment, with 11,366 being in hospitals and 25,652 in field hospitals, while 1,526 are in severe condition with 433 requiring ventilators.

– 3. Samut Sakhon, 240;
– 4. Songkhla, 185;
– 5. Chonburi, 142;
– 6. Pattani, 120;
– 7. Pathum Thani, 93;
– 8. Ratchaburi, 91;
– 9. Narathiwat, 89;
– 10. Nakhon Pathom, 79.
