Lone activist gives three-finger salute at Prayut event

A YOUNG man gave the three-finger salute as he walked to the VIP reception room at Impact Muang Thong Thani where caretaker Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha was resting after declaring his candidacy for premiership in the May 14 general election under the tickets of Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, Naewna newspaper said this evening (Mar. 25).

As he walked through a group of reporters and Prayut’s supporters seated in front of the room, the unidentified bespectacled young man, who was wearing a black face mask and carrying a backpack, said, “I didn’t mean to come but I want to make a stand.”

A reporter asked him whether he knew in advance Prayut would be attending a function here, he replied that he did not but was annoyed at the bad traffic jam as he had to pay 300 baht for a taxi ride.

However when Prayut’s supporters began to show their dissatisfaction, the young man walked away to the other side of the building.

The three-finger salute was popularized in the 2010s after its use in the movie “The Hunger Games.” The gesture has been adopted by protesters, particularly pro-democracy protest movements in Southeast Asia, mainly in Thailand and Myanmar, as well as in other countries, including Hong Kong, according to Wikipedia.
