DUTY-NEGLIGENCE AND POLITICAL partiality charges could possibly be lodged in court against the Election Commission for failure to investigate a questionable Ruam Thai Sang Chart event held last month, said Somchai Srisutthiyakorn, head of the Thai Liberal strategy steering campaigns, today (Feb.24).
Somchai said he will definitely take such legal action against all six commissioners of the polling agency if they ever fail to respond to January 9’s event in which the Ruam Thai Sang Chart had allegedly recruited thousands of villagers from the provinces to Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre to attend a pompous introduction of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha as member of the brand-new party and be given hats and T-shirts bearing the party’s logo for free.
According to Somchai, himself a former election commissioner, the transportation of the cheering crowds on tour buses and handout of those giveaway items as part of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart activity may be considered a violation of the law.
Somchai pledged to see to it that the allegedly illegal activity of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart which is currently pitting Prayut as partisan contender for prime minister after an upcoming general election will be reasonably responded to by the commissioners.
The Thai Liberal strategy steersman said he will visit the Election Commission headquarters next Friday to make direct inquiry with the commissioners who recently lifted his petition earlier filed in pursuit of investigation by the polling agency into the allegedly illegal conduct of the pro-Prayut party.
The former commissioner said he may finally lodge duty-negligence and political partiality charges against his successors if they fail to respond and clarify their waiver of his petition against the brand-new party.
Somchai confirmed he had earlier compiled and submitted pieces of evidence pertaining to the party’s alleged wrongdoings to Election Commission secretary-general Sawaeng Boonmee who contended that the former commissioner’s petition carries no specific details or evidence to substantiate his allegations.
