House dissolution early next month: Prayut

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

PRIME MINISTER Prayut Chan-o-cha today (Feb.21) confirmed he will dissolve the House of Representatives to call a general election early next month.

Nonetheless, Prayut stopped short of pinpointing on what date around early next month he may dissolve the House.

The premier told reporters at Government House the nationwide election would likely be held on May 7 as earlier tentatively scheduled by the Election Commission.

Prayut himself is contesting to prolong his rule for two more years under the Ruam Thai Sang Chart tickets.

The May 7 election date was tentatively scheduled by the polling agency on grounds that Prayut would live out the four-year term of the legislative branch rather than dissolve it in the meantime.

In case of a dissolution of the House on any day prior to the end of its term, scheduled for March 23, the general election will be held in the following 60 days, compared to a 45-day time in case of a complete consumption of its term.
