Man injured in Koh Samui parking row

A DISPUTE over a pickup truck parked in front of a Koh Samui shop not backing to allow another vehicle leave the premises led to shots being fired and one man getting injured yesterday (Jan. 13), Naewna newspaper said.

Pol. Col. Pongkhajorn Sukkasang, superintendent of Koh Samui police station, said the whole incident which took place in front of an auto accessories shop was recorded by a camera in the black pickup truck trying leave the premises.

The video clip shows that two brothers, Mr. Phisit (surname withheld) and Mr. Panuwat drove their white pickup truck and parked it in front of this shop.

Just then Mr. Bunyot or Piek Tala-upara, 47, was backing his black pickup truck out of the shop after getting the air-conditioner repaired. A shop employee asked the two brothers to reverse and give way but they refused.

They then walked to Bunyot’s vehicle, yanked open the driver’s door with Phisit getting ready to hit him with an iron rod. Bunyot then drew his .45 handgun and fired three shots with one of them hitting Panuwat’s left arm.

Phisit also hit Bunyot’s wrist with the rod after which the two brothers ran away.

Bunyot then surrendered at the police station and handed over his handgun. He has been charged with attempted murder, unauthorised possession of a firearm and ammunition  and carrying it in public without reasonable grounds. However Bunyot has denied all the charges.

The island’s police have set up checkpoints to search vehicles and have seized both drugs and firearms.
