Retired general becomes top leader of United Nation Party

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

A RETIRED ARMY general has become top leader of a little-known coalition partner United Nation Party.

In today’s (August 1) extraordinary caucus of United Nation Party, Wit Thephasadin na Ayudhya was named top leader of the one-MP coalition partner whilst former Thai Rak Thai MP Chamlong Krudkhuntod was named secretary-general of the party.

United Nation Party, which was previously named Thai Nation Power Party, got a single MP in the 2019 general election and joined the Palang Pracharath-led coalition.

Some retiring army generals and those who may have earlier retired are more or less expected to join Wit’s camp where a few were already named members of the party’s executive board.

Wit, known to have been personally close to Deputy Prime Minister/Palang Pracharath party leader Prawit Wongsuwan, had earlier acted as top leader of Thai Economic Party.

The retired general resigned from the Thai Economic Party in May and was replaced by Thammanat Prompow as top leader of the party which defected from the coalition to the opposition bloc last month.
