Chadchart aims to build 500km jogging tracks, starting with 10km pilot scheme

BANGKOK Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said after jogging with participants in Virtual Fun Run to mark Bangkok Metropolitan Administraton’s 50th anniversary this year at the Vachira Benjathat Park (Railway Park) that he intends to building 500 kilometres of jogging tracks in the capital starting with a 10km pilot scheme, Matichon newspaper said.

These tracks will have a good view and bathrooms along the way so that people can walk and run easily with the goal being to turn Bangkok into an easily walkable city.

“Tourists too will find it easy to walk, it will be shady, and with more people walking a lot of cars may not be needed.

“We wouldn’t have to be on the skywalk all the time, we could come down and walk on the footpath and buying things along the roadside and department stores too would do better,” he said.

As Bangkok Metropolitan Administration was established by Declaration No.335 of the Revolution Committee with this coming into effect on December 14, 1972, this year marks its 50 anniversary which is an important occasion for officials and the general public to participate in marking the special event.

Various activities have been arranged both onsite and online including a photo exhibition with prizes for those that get the most votes, seminars on Bangkok and its development, various trips such as canal boat rides, recommending good food in some alleys and recruiting volunteers to help the elderly.
