PRIME MINISTER Prayut Chan-o-cha is pleased that Thailand rose to rank as the 8th safest global travel destination in a survey of Americans by travel insurance provider Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection, TV Channel 7 said today (Apr. 30).
A similar survey in 2018 had placed Thailand 20th with this year’s result being a significant improvement.
Thailand also ranked 3rd after Japan and South Korea in Asia and is number one within Asean.
Moreover the survey of more than 1,500 Americans conducted in September 2021 for this year’s “State of Travel Insurance Report ” found that millennial tourists have ranked South Korea and Thailand as the two safest travel destinations after the champ, Iceland.
Ms. Traisuli Traisornkul, the deputy spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, said the Ministry of Tourism and Sports had continuously improved safety standards for tourists based on the principle that their wellbeing affected the country’s image.
Gen. Prayut said this survey will benefit the tourism industry as a whole just as the country opens up fully to tourists from tomorrow, May 1.Â
The country will also benefit from being selected to host the world motorcycle competition MotoGP 2022 with this taking place during September 30 – October 2, 2022 at Chang International Circuit, Buriram province. The country will continue to host this tournament till 2026.
Thailand successfully hosted the MotoGP 2019 that attracted around 220,000 participants, 160,000 Thai and 59,000 foreigners, and brought over 4 billion baht to northeastern provinces. The event also created 5,466 jobs.
