THE former deputy leader of Democrat Party Mr. Prinn Panichphakdi surrendered to investigation officers at Lumpini police station at 8 a.m. this morning (Apr. 16) to fight accusations of sexual harassment made by some women, Amarin TV said,
At 11 a.m. Pol. Maj. Gen. Jirasan Kaewsaeng-ek, deputy chief of Metropolitan Police, said Prinn, who came to the station to provide information and will be submitting supporting documents later, had denied all the allegations.
He added that police did not have the authority to detain him as no arrest warrant had yet been issued.
However if he did not show up at Bangkok South Criminal Court at 8 a.m. tomorrow the police would be able to arrest him immediately.
Regarding posting bail, this is for the court to consider but as there are three cases at Lumpini station bail would have to be posted for each one of them.
The National Police Chief and the Head of Metropolitan Police had assigned Pol. Maj. Gen. Trairong Phewpan, deputy chief of Metropolitan Police, to handle the legal aspect of the case while Lumpini police station is capable of handling the investigation on its own. Nevertheless a unit from Metropolitan Police Division 5 could come in to assist if more complaints are filed.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Jirasan also mentioned that the police were not worried about this case with the accused being a politician because they work within the legal framework in a transparent and fair manner.
Police will be asking the court to forbid Prinn from leaving the country as he has a residence overseas with this case also involving heavy penalties and there being many injured parties. Immigration police have been alerted to an eye on a possible escape attempt.
Later at 11.45 a.m. Prinn avoided reporters by leaving the police station by the back down with the housekeeper letting him out,
