Over 800kg Ice heading for Taiwan seized

THE CUSTOMS Department seized 897 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) hidden in silicone floor mats just as the consignment was being shipped to Taiwan, Amarin TV said today (Dec. 4).

Mr. Phachara Anantasil, head of the Customs Department, said the X-ray and Technology Centre at the Bangkok Port Customs Office, Klongtoey, found that the huge amount of Ice worth about 538 million baht in Thailand was hidden in these floor mats and packed like normal products.

Eagle-eyed customs officials became suspicious of the 24 boxes containing these floor mats and so examined the product. It was then found that these mats were of different weights and sizes and a thorough examination after that uncovered the Ice hidden within them.

If this large amount of Ice had reached Taiwan the value would have risen to 3 billion baht.

It is still being investigated whether this drug bust is linked to the recent seizure of 400 kilogrammes of heroin in Taiwan.
