560,000 doses of Moderna vaccine arriving here by Nov. 5

ZUELLIG Pharma today (Nov. 23) confirmed that the first lot of 560,000 doses of its Moderna vaccine will be arriving in Thailand no later than Nov. 5, 2021 with a total of 1.9 million doses  coming here within this last quarter of the year, Matichon newspaper said.

A contract has been signed with the Government Pharmaceutical Organisation (GPO) to supply the remaining 6.8 million doses within the first quarter of next year.

Moderna is channelled locally by Zuellig Pharma (ZP) Therapeutics, the supplier and distributor of the vaccine in Thailand.

Earlier the president of the Private Hospitals Association, Dr. Chalerm Hanpanich, said private hospitals will not provide a refund for customers who have reserved the Moderna vaccine; however, customers are allowed to reschedule the vaccination to a later date, or give the reserved shots to other persons, NNT said.

Moderna is one of the alternative Covid-19 vaccines in Thailand offered by private entities. People have booked the shots with private hospitals since July, at a starting price of 1,650 baht per dose.

Meanwhile the Public Health Ministry said there were 9,742 Covid cases and 74 deaths today with this taking the cumulative confirmed total since April 1 to 1,812,268.

An additional 10,182 patients were cured taking total recoveries since April to 1,693,203 while 101,803 are still undergoing treatment with 2,452 being in serious condition and 560 requiring ventilators.

The additional 74 fatalities raised the death toll since the start of the pandemic to 18,699
