THE Public Health Ministry said early this morning (May 4) that there were 27 coronavirus fatalities over the last 24 hours, lower than 31 yesterday, while 1,763 new cases emerged, less than 1,940 yesterday, Siam Rath newspaper said.
The ministry’s Disease Control Department said this took the cumulative confirmed total to 72,788 cases with the death toll having reached 303, and of this total 209 fatalities occurred in the current wave that started last month.
Dr. Chawetsan Namwat, acting head of the disease control and emergency health department, said the number of Covid cases in Bangkok and its vicinity is still rising with the districts in the metropolis where a spike is seen being in Huai Khwang, Din Daeng, Bang Khen, Wattana and Chatuchak.
A new cluster of 59 cases has emerged at Pathumwan district at the Bonkai and Pattana Bonkai housing communities.
Risk factors include going to entertainment venues, attending parties and slum clusters in the Klong Toey area.
There are approximately 100,000 people living in 39 crowded slum and housing communities in Bangkok and a large number of infection was found in five of them with these being Pattana, Pattana Mai, Rim Klong Wat Saphan, Wat Khlong Toei Nai and Ruamjai Samakhee communities.
